A Second Child means a new Frontier
Miranda and I were talking over dinner. We both realized that we were coming down to the wire as the birth of our second child grows nearer. She is 30 weeks along today. She is three-fourths of the way.
We are expecting a girl, and if you know anything about my family that is essentially the equivalent to a solar eclipse being seen in Indiana skies. It just doesn't happen very often. A friend of mine laughed when I originally told him and said, "You'd be the one to buck a trend." Thanks, Jeremy.
I always thought that after I had the first child that a second child wouldn't mean that many changes, but as I think about it I realize that is not the case. I will be raising a daughter which will mean probably different tactics as a parent. A second child is a completely different human being meaning new things to learn from the child and new methods to use. I have two young people to care for, to protect and to lay everything on the line for. It really is a new frontier for a father.
Despite thinking of all these challenges and the possible negatives, I still look forward to the day she comes into our lives. I look forward to the challenges. I've never been one to back down from a challenge. Even though she's not here, I can already not imagine life without her. I think about her all the time. I am ready for a new frontier in parenting.

I love seeing how different our two daughters are. We tried to parent our second daughter the same way as our first, and in many cases we failed! It was a huge eye opener to have a second kid in that everything you thought you knew about raising kids was wrong… or only provide part of the truth. Two kids will be a challenge well worth it for you, I’m sure!
