Many blogs and experts are asking this question: “Is the @OldSpice guy selling more product with this campaign?” A little background of this campaign. It started at the Super Bowl XLIV when Old Spice released this memorable commercial. It captivated everyone which then spawned many different similar commercials by Old Spice. The company did not use Old Spice guy for everything though. They were working up something much more…personal.
Perhaps one of the most memorable recent @OldSpice guy videos from this viral campaign is the marriage proposal. A follower on Twitter posted a question, “Can U Ask my girlfriend to marry me? Her name is Angela A. Hutt-Chamberlin.” Within an hour, he responded. Here’s a look:

Twitter followers are getting video responses posted to YouTube many times throughout the day. This campaign has gotten more and more attention by experts trying to figure out is this campaign selling more product.
I’m not going to be scientific, but I’m going to have to say yes. Why? How? I don’t have numbers to back it up, but part of Geico’s early successes was the fantastic humorous commercials. It made people talk about Geico. Now Progressive with their Flo commercials are doing well.
Humor sells. Old Spice is engaging their audience by allowing them to talk directly to their team, and then those people are getting responses in great humorous ways. Old Spice is now top of mind of many, and I can almost guarantee the next time a new customer needs body wash he or she will stand there and think, “I wonder what this Old Spice stuff is really like.”
It should also be noted that for now he’s no longer making new videos. I imagine it was exhausting. Here’s his farewell. It’s rather funny too.
