Discipline follows leadership

In my effort to continue down the path of discipline I have been thinking about leadership. Leadership must be able to instill the discipline in the team to be able to achieve goals that could possibly be out of reach for others. A well-disciplined team can accomplish much more than a larger team that is disjointed and undisciplined.

Leadership must be disciplined as well. They are to set the goals and the direction for the team, and they are not only there to hold the team accountable for accomplishing these things but they're there to set the standard. If leadership is not disciplined then the path they set will be unclear and tough to travel.

The Indianapolis Colts show how discipline within the leadership staff can trickle down to each piece of the organization. Everything about their football organization reflects a level of maturity and the mind set there is only one goal which is the Super Bowl. Recently they took several blows from media and some fans (myself included) when they pulled their starters during their Week 16 game because everything was wrapped up that they needed to give themselves their best shot in the playoffs. Many fans wanted a 16-0 season. The Colts remained firm in their belief that the playoffs and the Super Bowl was the only goal. It took discipline on their part to not become enthralled with a 16-0 season which ultimately (in their belief) did not necessarily give them their best shot for the Super Bowl.

The Colts are to play in the Super Bowl this Sunday. I think they've made their case.
