Social media for business use

In today’s age most people write about how your business should use social media and social networking. Many of these blogs have good ideas that may help you piece together an effective method for success. I am not to be excluded from the crowd in suggesting ways to better use social media to reach your customers. I do believe that many blogs are missing one important fact: nothing will help if you don’t have a strong social media strategy.

This weekend I spent some time with a good friend, Brian McKay discussing various aspects in business and other subjects that came to mind. We were in the car when we heard a commercial for a workout plan. He told me he hears people say, “Oh that plan doesn’t work or won’t work.” He stated that all of these workout products or programs work – if they are used according to a plan.

That got my attention. Exercise doesn’t really work for you in the long term if you don’t stick with it or have a plan to make it work for you. An example would be to purchase a gym membership. If you don’t go it doesn’t help you. If you got one day this week, three days the next and then don’t go the third week the gym really doesn’t have any long term impacts on your success. In order to best utilize a gym membership you must create and implement a full workout plan and stay consistent. You could see results in as little as thirty days following a plan.

Social media is no different. You get your best results with a plan or social media strategy for your business. So today I’m not going to try to give you tips on how to use social networking to be successful. Today I’m going to give you the slight nudge in a different direction. If you’re going to use social media for business use – start with a plan. How can you be creative in its use and plan for success?
