Social media and the link to STD’s

The content of this post may be a bit out of the ordinary, but it is social media related and I find it rather funny. This is proof-positive that you can make any stats make any point. There was a recent study that actually tried to link more Facebook users, more sexually-transmitted diseases. I had a hearty chuckle when reading this. Luckily the author of this post seems to feel the same way. Can people actually be serious about this? Sadly, yes they can. Here's a link to how Facebook is  linked to the rise in syphilis.

Social Media does not transmit sexually-transmitted diseases

That would be like saying a robot gave me herpes (PSA: I don't have herpes). Well, that statement is outrageous, and so is claiming the use of Facebook and other social media websites will actually increase your likelihood of contracting one of these diseases. There are just times when I feel that people will make statistical data say anything. If I really wanted to I am sure I could track my movements around the house to prove to my wife that my daily chore intake and output has increased x percent over the course of the last month just so I can look good to her.

The simple fact remains that while Facebook and other social media websites make it easier for people to keep in touch and possibly meet it's the actions of those people when they meet that will actually determine if diseases are passed back and forth. If people are to engage in casual sex and that's their cup of tea who am I to judge them? Practicing safe sex will actually control this supposed outbreak in STD's due to social media. Then again I'm not a doctor. I'm just a person with common sense it seems.
