Build for a strong future, not just a good “for now”

When are analysts and so-called "experts" in their fields going to realize you can't really predict what's going to happen in this economy? I can't tell you the number of different point of views I've heard in the past week arguing back and forth about the economy plan that Barack and his staff are putting together. It's frankly tiring, and I've ultimately decided that no one really knows what's going to happen.

I hear people arguing the new plan doesn't jolt the economy now. I hear that sure it will reduce our national deficit, but the "now" portion of the plan lacks and will be very slow in turning things around for our economy. Then I hear people completely for it, and how this plan builds a stronger nation in the long run.

I feel that none of these people can possibly know if they're right. I'd be even more surprised if anyone was absolutely right in the end. I think we're going to see several levels of successes and failures in this plan. In my opinion, I don't really want a great "right now" if that means in the near future we're going to be back in another recession with an equal or greater national deficit.

I am a firm believer in "delayed gratification" and "planning ahead." If the current plan is slow to bring us around to be out of the recession, but it firmly reduces the national deficit and giving our children a good chance to be successful then I'm all for it. I don't know what's going to happen, but I do think that the time spent arguing about if this happens or that happens can be spent on more useful things.

If you get the time to listen to analysts and experts on the economy and their views on the plan, please remember they really don't know the answers. If they knew the answers, then they'd be in a position to make those changes. Also remember our economy is very diverse and tricky with many moving parts so even the people in position are playing a chess match trying to get the best out of it. Be patient and position yourself to be successful in a down and up economy. I'm going to be striving to hit that goal. How will you proceed?

Ignorance is not bliss if it makes us hateful

I was reading this blog about "Insults at Inauguration?", and I have to say that this was what my previous post was really about. Only would truly ignorant people really find that prayer and the statements made by Barack Obama to be attacks against whites or any other race. People that look at this in negative light probably do not realize what Martin Luther King, Jr. really stood for.

The point is this: Stop picking apart words and putting in meanings to get your personal agenda stated. The fact is this is the first African-American president in our country's history. The fact is caucasians did do some things that I think the good-natured caucasians probably wish never did. The fact is that was a prayer - not an attack.

Another fact - Barack Obama did say "we." He also used "we" to talk and describe the United States of America. He didn't specifically say, "The voters who did not vote for me are this or that." He said "we." I firmly believe he has our country's best interest in mind. As I said before I'm not a Democrat. I am also white. I would like to think that we can look at this as an opportunity to come together as a nation, or we can look at it with negative light and find anything and everything wrong with what the President does and says just to be pessimistic and not help the country in general.

Never before have I felt so compelled in politics, but I firmly believe one person's actions and words can effect many. From what I saw of the inauguration videos and articles that covered the event in its entirety, he really did show the virtues of a leader on this day. We should take it as that and move on. We won't agree with everything, but to pick apart words and try to come up with meanings that may or may not even be there is tiresome and growing old. Go with what he says and does - if and when he slips up - then make it known.

Obama Bashers Come Out in Force

I am not a Democrat. I am a Republican. Let me first start this message by clarifying that, but I also have a strong sense of patriotism for my country. It helps to have family in the military or who have left the military. You get a real sense of what it means to them to protect and lead America.

As if there wasn't enough ignorant hate messages about Barack Obama prior to the election, it seems that since he's been inaugurated that the ignorant Obama bashers and Republicans are coming out of the woodwork stating this and that about how "his policies will harm America" or "I hope he fails." Rush Limbaugh is a prime example of this foolish talk. Give me a break already! It's that exact propaganda by both parties that makes me sick to my stomach and pretty much ignore everything you say.

In my opinion, what will harm America is if we hang on to the negatives on the past like a childhood teddy bear. We just don't want to let go. We look at the mistakes George Bush made (remember that he could not do almost anything without the approval of Congress), and we compare everything Barack will do based on that. "Is it better than Bush?" Can we not take a step aside and say, "Is this better for us now? Will we come out of recession? Will the standard of living not be so frightening?" If we can say "yes" to any of those, then Barack in my opinion is doing is job well.

If we keep up with these clear divided lines and allow political evangelists like Rush Limbaugh make snide remarks and be swayed by them, then I say we will harm America - not Barack. I may not agree with everything he does, but he is our leader. I may not see eye to eye with everything, but he is our leader. It is our duty as Americans no matter what political party you typically support to help America grow and recover, and not cause damage to an already shaken morale. If these individuals are leaders in their respective parties, or leaders in general, then in my opinion they need to show those leadership qualities and work to improve life instead of causing anger, fear and hatred. I know that's what sells, but until I see a leader that I can believe in I am going to do my part to move the United States of America forward the best I can.
