The movie theater is a great place to go for big blockbuster movies that make you laugh, cry, or amaze you with special effects. That’s too expensive to make on the regular, and you’re going to burn out quickly. So how do you use video to win business?
Answer your customers’ questions
Two years ago, I published a video for TechWise Academy that answered “What is Debugging?” It’s only 1:45. It was really to help teachers or aspiring coders to quickly learn about the practice of debugging.
Low production value. Just a guy with a camera and a mic sharing thoughts.
This video has thousands more views than the other videos published from that time. What’s different?
We answered a question people were asking. It was delivered in an authentic way. We also didn’t worry about making sure our business name was in the title.
We just answered the question. No fluff.
The good news is it took maybe a half hour to get it all done.
Take this little test
Go to Google and type in a question like, “What’s the best garage light?” Note how many search results appear as videos on the front page. There’s also a tab for videos.
Now try a different topic on your own. Ask a question.
This is how most people search. These are the questions with keyword where you want your business to show up.
Treat the video like a frequently asked question (FAQ)
Think through all the questions your customers have asked over the years. Write them down. Look through your website data and see what people are searching.
Create videos that answer these questions, and provide clear titles with the question included. This is critical. Search engines love that.
Then you can spice it up with other details:
- Provide a description that goes further into the topic you’re discussing
- End the description with a link to a related blog post, product, or your website
- Enter tags for the video to be found
There’s more you can do to really make YouTube work for you. We’ll save that for another date.
Conclusion
YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world–owned by the biggest search engine in the world, Google. People are searching more and more for video content like a search engine, and the search terms are only getting more contextual. You can get your business attention by answering the questions that you can answer best. Don’t worry about hyping your business. They’ll see who gave them the answers. And with the steps above, you’ll see results.
